Renée Fisher Competition features Dave's Reel @ Neighborhood Music School | New Haven | Connecticut | United States

Dave’s Reel by David Evan Thomas is the commissioned solo-piano work in the Elementary/Middle School division of the 2017 Renée B. Fisher Competition for Young Pianists, a competition sponsored by the Neighborhood Music School in New Haven, Connecticut.

The competition has two levels: elementary/middle school (through grade 8) and high school (through grade 12). A special feature of the competition is the commissioning of two works, one for each division. These works are written by composers chosen competitively by a special committee of the competition. These are required pieces, designed to introduce students to living composers and their work.

The 2017 Fisher Competition marks a 40-year tradition of nurturing young pianists who live or study in Connecticut. Neighborhood Music School proudly accepted management of the Competition in 2003. Milton B. Fisher of Westport, Conn., founded The Fisher Competition and Composer Awards as a fitting way to honor the memory of his wife Renée, a talented pianist, author and teacher who passed away in 1976.
