Program Note
This wedding triptych was composed 2004-2005. The title piece, A Taste of Cana’s Wine, celebrates the wedding of a dear friend from Penfield, New York, Helga Peck, to Ingo Leubner. It’s a generous and hearty tune in a rolling 6/8 meter, appropriate for prelude or offertory. The last two pieces were composed for Melanie Ohnstad’s wedding to Philip Friedman in 2005. It was my great pleasure to work with Melanie in my capacity as composer-in-residence at Westminster Presbyterian Church (Minneapolis) through the American Composers Forum’s Faith Partners program, 2002-2004. Melanie has served as Minister of Music and organist of Westminster for many years. A Rose Unfolding is a simple three-part piece, suitable for offertory or prelude. Westminster Air is a trumpet tune in the English tradition. It may be played as an organ solo or with solo trumpet.
