Program Note

“I call to remembrance my song in the night; I commune with my own heart;
and my spirit made diligent search.”

Lines from Psalm 77 set the mood, cello harmonics call to mind the natural world, and a lyrical response in the form of a nocturne gives both partners a chance to play leading and supporting roles. Song in the Night was premiered by cellist Kirsten Whitson and organist Aaron David Miller at House of Hope Presbyterian Church in Saint Paul, Minnesota in August, 2010. It was revised in 2016.
