From the Press:

David Evan Thomas has composed a lovely hymn tune with soaring lines that complement the poetry of Delores Dufner, OSB. The congregation is invited to join in the final stanza, and a glorious Amen concludes the anthem. Definitely worth a look. Not difficult.

–Philip Brunelle, The American Organist, Dec. 2013

Program Note

When Music Wakes My Sleeping Heart is an anthem derived from my 2008 cantata Seasons of the Spirit. Delores Dufner’s rousing hymn is presented first by solo soprano, then worked out by chorus and finally taken up by the congregation, concluding with an arching alleluia. The organ part is modest and supportive. The anthem is dedicated to Philip Brunelle and the Plymouth Congregational Church Choir, which gave the premiere in 2011.
